Product Review
1906 New Highs Love Drops & Love Beans
Happy Valentine’s Day!
In my efforts to find something topical to write about for my favorite holiday, I remembered that one of my favorite edibles brands has just the product for the season, and figured I’d do a little review (with the help of a very kind, anonymous man from a dating app).
The Product
1906 New Highs has been one of my favorite brands since moving to a legal cannabis state. Their sleep drops (RIP, if you’re reading this and you work for them please bring them back) were one of the only things that could get me to sleep through the night for a while, their chill drops have been indispensable for helping with my autistic meltdowns, and the only way I can sit down long enough to get this review written in the first place is by taking their genius drops. I cannot stress enough how much I love their products, so I was a little surprised and disappointed to find how little their love drops and love beans did for me.
The Process
To get an accurate read of their efficacy, I recorded 3 total sessions: one from the love drops (pill form), one from the love beans (espresso beans covered in dark chocolate), and one with no added edibles. Myself and the person helping me supplemented all 3 sessions by smoking one bowl for each of us between taking the edibles and testing how they impacted arousal. The love drops have 2.5mg of THC and 5mg of CBD each, while the love beans have 5mg of each, putting it at a 1:1 ratio. To try to have an even dosage of THC, we took 4 pills each for the love drop session and 2 beans each for the love beans session.
The Thoughts
The session with the love drops was objectively the worst of the 3, with the edibles acting more as a sedative than an aphrodisiac. We did both get a light buzz from the drops combined with the bowl, but overall they did not do what was advertised, and we found ourselves instead curling up to sleep for a couple of hours. I blame the impromptu nap primarily on the anti-inflammatory effects of the higher CBD ratio.
The session with the love beans was about on par with the session that had no edibles included. As far as the edibles themselves, the beans had a very pleasant crunchy texture and a mocha-adjacent flavor. The taste of the cannabis itself was undetectable, which is a massive pro. After looking over the brief survey I took after each session, I did not find a notable difference in the level or longevity of arousal, or the enjoyment of the sex itself.
The Rating
Overall, I’d have to rate both of the products collectively at 3 stars. They did their job as edibles well enough, they’re just a bit expensive to not impact arousal as advertised. I am a little bit disappointed with my experience with these, as I’ve enjoyed every other product I’ve tried from 1906 New Highs and found them to operate exactly as advertised. I cannot recommend the brand as a whole enough, this individual product just wasn’t up to par.
